Hello Everyone,

Based on all of the news forecasts I'm hearing, I've decided it is best to close the Academy on Friday, February 5th and Saturday, February 6th. The news is calling for heavy snow, sleet and rain starting Friday early morning, continuing through Saturday night. The roads are bound to be bad.

Attention to all Students and Friends of the RBJJ Academy!

As you all know, a terrible tragedy has occurred in Haiti. As of Saturday, January 16th, news reports are indicating that at least 100,000 people have died in the earthquake, and the most basic human necessities like clean water and food are scarce at best. Medical supplies are also very limited, and the situation looks terrible.

I'd like to please ask each member and friend of our Academy to give anything that you can. $5, $10, $20...anything can help! We will be accepting cash donations at Richmond BJJ for the entire week (January 18th - 23rd), and are hoping to send out a big check to help out with aid relief. I am (personally) starting the donations with $200. There will be a jar at the Academy all week, so please bring any money you can donate and drop it in the jar. These people literally have nothing right now, and many folks are badly hurt, with missing or dead relatives. Please, please, please give what you can. Anything will help, and will be appreciated in the deepest way by those who need it most!

Thank you all so much.

With respect,
Eric Burdo
Head Instructor
Richmond BJJ Academy

P.S. This coming Saturday (January 23rd) is Yoga USA day. We will be offering a free Yoga class at 10am for anyone who would like to come do some Yoga! We do ask to please leave a donation in our Haiti fund jar if you can! Thank you so much!

BJJ Revolution Team - Team Champions at Sub-Only!!!

Once again, the BJJ Revolution Team won the Team Championship, this time at the US Grappling Submission-Only 6! The event took place on Saturday, December 5th, in Ashland, Virginia. 2009 was a clean sweep for us at US Grappling competitions here in Richmond!

Some cool statistics for our Academy and Team:
Fastest submissions of the tournament (20 seconds each): Reed Winn (armlock) and Bryan Moore (ankle lock).
Womens' divisions fastest submission (58 seconds): Lo Menzies (head & arm choke)
Gordon Emery (Charlottesville BJJ) won the purple belt absolute division.

Richmond BJJ Academy Head Instructor Eric Burdo was invited to do a 4-man Black Belt division at the event. After winning his first match against Rudy Fischmann (Wander Braga Black Belt) in 16 minutes by mounted triangle, he lost a long, hard fought match in the finals to Dennis Hayes (Pedro Sauer Black Belt) after 26 minutes.

Eric had this to say to his students: "Although I am disappointed that I lost my finals match, I am still proud of my performances, and promise to work even harder in 2010 to make sure I bring home the Gold!"

NEW! 05-15-08 - REVOLUTION TEAM TOURNAMENT

We were proud to announce the very first BJJ Revolution Team Virginia In-House Tournament on Sunday, June 1st!  This tournament was put together by Eric Burdo and Andrew Smith, with the purpose of getting our students together to have a friendly competition, and to raise the competition level of our Team!  All BJJ Revolution Team members (aka students of Richmond BJJ Academy, Revolution BJJ, Integrated Grappling Arts, and Charlottesville BJJ) competed!  Not only was this a great way for everyone to get some extra competition experience, but it was also a fundraiser towards supporting all of our competitors who will be competing in the 2009 Pan-American BJJ Championships!

Thanks to Everyone who participated!!!!!

BJJ Revolution Team announcement:  Starting April 1st, 2008, The Richmond BJJ Academy, Revolution BJJ Academy and Integrated Grappling Arts will be offering a free training day each month to each of our full-time BJJ students!  In other words, if you are training Unlimited BJJ at Richmond BJJ, you are welcome to visit Revolution BJJ and Integrated Grappling Arts once a month each for free!  This also applies for all full-time students of Revolution BJJ and Integrated Grappling Arts.  This offer is to help promote the Team, and allow our full-time students the opportunity to train with our other students locally.  If you want to train more than once per month at one of our other gyms, or if you are a part-time BJJ student, you will have to pay a drop-in fee of only $10 per class!  A great deal for everyone!  Please visit our affiliate Academies and get some great training in!
